Liberty of the Seas

December 27, 2007

The sister ship to the Freedom is the Liberty of the Seas. The Liberty, like the Freedom was built at the Aker Shipyards in Turku, Finland. According to Royal Carribean, the Liberty is 1,112 feel long and has a capacity for 3,634 passengers. In addition to a Flow rider surfing pool, full sized basketball court and an ice skating rink, you will find the Liberty Dunes.

The Liberty Dunes is identical to the Freedom golf course, with minor exceptions being varied hole and rock placement and different undulations. Another exemplary example of a versatile area that plays well for golfers of all ages, some challenge for experienced golfers and a nice place to spend time througout your cruise.

Freedom of the Seas

August 9, 2007

Welcome to the Blog that deals with the Golf Areas on Cruise Ships. This website will detail the various cruise ship golf areas and welcome any and all contributions from visitors.

I will try and not bore you with the mundane details of this subject, but will attempt to identify all ships that have golf courses onboard, discuss these areas and rate them.

Here are photos from a ship that has a first class golf area,  Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas.

A beautiful ship, in a class of her own; The Freedom Class.

Built at the Aker Shipyards in beautiful Turku, Finland and delivered in April 2007. The Freedom of the Seas went into service on June 4th, 2006. Her length is 1,112 feet and she is one of the largest cruise ships sailing today.

The Freedom of the Seas has a large golf area located on Deck 13 Aft. This area is expansive, affords a beautiful area to watch the ship cruising, meet friends, socialize and have some quiet time. A drink after dinner, a meeting spot or a place to meet a new friend or contemplate that silent seaway.

The Freedom Golf Course is a nine (9) hole design and is reminiscent of an oceanside course incorporating rocks and walls into the playing experience. The individual holes have bumps to increase difficulty and this course incorporates 4 different types of turf carpet for the tee area and greens, fairways, rough and the sand traps. Green foliage dot the landscape, with the strategically placed rocks.

The golf course is handicap accesible with wheelchair ramps and the playing holes are wide and long. The golf play is enjoyable for all ages, but has some challenge for golfers who want to work on their putting game.  A smart design, a wonderful area that allows for many varied uses. A nice place to visit throughout your cruise for golf or to relax and make your own.
